Die gefeierte Fotokünstlerin Cara Romero (Chemehuevi) thematisiert Indigene Geschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft in modernen, oft sehr persönlichen fotografischen Statements. Sie verwebt mythische und futuristische, ökologische und feministische Themen zu vielschichtigen Kompositionen. Ihr Werk ist sensibel, ehrlich und kompromisslos. Romero definiert ihre eigenen Standards und setzt den fremdbestimmten Darstellungen des letzten Jahrhunderts selbstbestimmte visuelle Narrative entgegen.
